The National Hurricane Center’s latest update has Tropical Storm Marco’s potential landfall near New Orleans as a CAT 1 Hurricane early Monday afternoon.

Tropical Storm Laura is forecast to dump heavy rains over Hispaniola and Cuba, and then make its way over the Gulf towards Louisiana. Forecasters are less confident about its path because of potential interaction with Marco.

Storm surge and heavy rainfall will the biggest factors for the Gulf Coast. Residents of the Louisiana’s gulf parishes were instructed to prepare for surges of up to five feet.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards requested a federal emergency declaration on Saturday. Mandatory evacuations are in place for some of Louisiana’s southern parishes and more are expected into next week.
