Tropical Storm Beta Brings Flooding and Storm Surge Threat

Tropical Storm conditions are underway as Beta makes its way toward the Central Texas Coast. Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft located Beta’s center 55 miles southeast of Freeport, Texas, moving west-northwest at 7mph and 50 MPH max sustained winds.

Beta is forecast to make landfall in the next 12-18 hours, south of Port O’Connor, Texas, but then stall out for several hours before the steering winds pick up and make that sharp turn to the Northeast. The 10:00 AM National Hurricane Center (NHC) track takes Beta nearly directly over Galveston on Wednesday and then just south of Port Arthur, Texas, by Wednesday night and into Louisiana.

The NHC stated, “The center of Beta will continue to move toward the central coast of Texas today and will likely move inland by tonight. Beta is forecast to remain close to the coast of southeastern Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
